TRANSFORMATION: Core Elements
(c) J. Michael Lowry 2007
Romans 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
I. Four Things you must do!
FAITHFULNESS AND FRUITFULNESS INVOLVE FOUR CRUCIAL COMPONENTS:
- Reclaim a gospel identity
- Reclaim a gospel purpose
- Rediscover a sense of mission greater than yourself
- Rediscover the mighty Acts of God
II. Five Vital Turning Points
- Understand your unique missional orientation (Why did God call your church into existence?)
- Honor God with an Abundance Mentality
- Gain clarity on the organizing principle of your congregation
- Develop team ministry (i.e. ministry is too important to be left in the hands of the clergy!)
- Measure Fruitfulness (outputs vs inputs)
III. SIX KEY ELEMENTS OF THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS
- Connect People to God
- Focus on Core Ministry
- Rediscover/Reclaim a Wesleyan Identity
- Retell the Story of God’s Grace
- Engage in Holy Conversations
- Do Some Basics Well
